The Aces started the game on a mission against league leaders Ashridge. Some great midfield play from Christian, Louis and Jackson gave the Aces the lion's share of possession, but they only tested the goalkeeper twice, with a header from Louis and a half-volley from Choi. The first half ended in a stalemate at 0-0.
The second half began with the Aces losing their momentum. Ashridge pressed well and played some excellent football, and the Aces found themselves under pressure. The breakthrough came when an Ashridge winger picked up a loose ball and fired it in from just inside the box. With 15 minutes left, it was 1-0 to Ashridge.
The goal reignited the Aces. Jacob played the ball to Theo, who flicked it into the path of Zac. Zac showed great strength going shoulder to shoulder with a defender, and as the ball ran away from them, the defender kept pushing, leaving the referee with an obvious penalty to award with one minute left.
Up stepped Theo, who, with ice in his veins, slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. The Aces shared the points in a competitive and entertaining game.
After conceding a dubious last-minute penalty last week, it was a little poetic that the Aces got a bit of luck they deserved.
The Aces would like to thank Ashridge for a great game and look forward to running it back at their ground later in the season. Man of the match was Christian, who won every tackle and covered every blade of grass.
